Cliff’s 101 Tips for Health: Perform intermittent activity

Perform intermittent activities throughout the day

Taking short breaks throughout the day is a fantastic way to relax, refocus, refresh, and improve productivity.

It can also provide opportunities to gain strength or develop better movement skills, mobilise, and stretch, or even do a short HIIT workout. I take breaks approximately every hour or so and do a set of push-ups, chin-ups or pistol squats, or a little stretching or a short yoga sequence, and in doing so can accumulate a lot of additional movement over a day than I would otherwise have. This can also be a wonderful way to stay on track when ‘life gets in the way’ and you know you will be too busy to get into the gym.

Assess which area of fitness you need to prioritise. Is it flexibility, strength, or cardio? Perform an action that will help to improve that area throughout the day. For example, every 30-60min do a set of an exercise that helps an area of fitness that you’re currently weak in.
