You don’t need to train every day, but I have found that doing something active every day helps to stay in a mindset that encourages better behaviours and patterns for both eating and the maintenance of exercise.
Simple, gentle, recreational activities like walking, easy hikes, recreational sports, swimming and surfing also provide ‘active recovery’ as they are very different from your gym or sports training sessions (both in terms of movement types and energy systems) and often contain little of the ‘eccentric’ (lowering or resisting) portion of movement which induces the most muscle breakdown and soreness.
