Glenn Mackintosh – The Carb-Appropriate Podcast Ep.27

In this episode of the podcast, Cliff talks with non-diet health psychologist and author of Thinsanity, Glenn Mackintosh.

In this cast, I chat with Health Psychologist Glenn Mackintosh.

I first became aware of Glenn during our collaboration creating Reconditioned.Me, an integrated nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, and wellness program developed by celebrity trainer and chef Scott Gooding and featuring gems of wisdom from Glenn to help your mind-state and nutrition info from yours truly.

Glenn is an advocate for what I see as a positive and happiness centred approach to health rather than the typical weight-centric approach that has been favoured in the medical world. His work crosses over with movements like Health at Every Size, Intuitive Eating, and Empowered Eating and has a pragmatic, evidence-based, and person-centric approach to health management.

We intially reconnected via an email discussion about Glenn’s article (excerpt from the Thinsanity audiobook) The BMI Lie.

In the cast we discussed a wide range of topics:

  • Society’s obsession with ‘thinness’
  • Why this obsession is driving poorer (not better) health outcomes
  • Why diets typically don’t work
  • How ‘Thinsanity’ is similar and different to HAES and Intuitive Eating
  • How to navigate between dogmatists in the diet and non-diet worlds
  • Taking a pragmatic and evidence-based approach to weight and fat management
  • How Glenn’s now Transformation Support Community is helping people to find their own personal health journey that works.

Overall, I really enjoyed the chat. Glenn’s approach is pragmatic, evidence-based, and most importantly both effective and kind. Not to mention that Glenn’s energy is infectious!

Enjoy!
